Caherdaniel
Caherdaniel
is our nearest village. It has two pubs, Freddies and The Blind
Piper, and a restaurant. There has been human settlement around
what is now Caherdaniel for more than 2000 years - copper was mined
in the mountains behind the village, and there is a ring fort, or
'caher', just outside the village.
The Kerry Way, a popular, well-marked and very beautiful walking
route, which follows the old, pre- nineteenth century road, passes
through the village. An enjoyable walk from Iskeroon is to take
the Mass Path to Derrynane Pier, walk along the beach to Derrynane
House, follow the road to Caherdaniel and come back using the Kerry
Way - this is a complete circuit.
